Opinion & Analysis

  • Extra Points: Two weeks notice

As quickly as I arrived, I am leaving.

In two weeks, I’ll be packing up my two-suitcases worth of belongs and moving to Boise, Idaho.

Boise!? Yes. Boise. The city with that college that has that infamous blue football turf. I am moving there to support my boyfriend as he takes on his new job at Boise State.

Now I will take the time to be as corny and cliche as possible:

  • Extra Points: I survived my Airbnb stay

What comes to your mind when you hear Airbnb?

For me it’s: Potential death. Potential kidnapping. Horror stories used as plots in Criminal Minds episodes. PR nightmare. Allegedly doesn’t rent to minorities.

Well, this past weekend I put my life at risk (yes, I’m dramatic) and stayed in my first Airbnb room. And although I am alive, it definitely was a unique experience to say the least.

  • Extra Points: 'Schooled' Review

Small town life has rendered me a Netflix addict. And within my Netflix addiction, has developed a documentaries obsession.

Since I’m a sports editor, my review will be about a sports documentary (non-sports documentary recommendation: The Imposter.) This past weekend, I struggled (you’ll see why) through Schooled: The Price of College Sports which is a documentary about why student-athletes should receive a salary.

If I could rename this documentary I would call it: Schooled: When football players still find more to complain about.

  • Extra Points: Dear recent graduates...

Two weekends ago I travelled back to civilization, whoops, I meant Chicago, for my master’s graduation.

I’m only 24, but walking across the stage to receive my second degree made me feel old and wise (I am neither) and got me thinking about what I should’ve done to maximize my college experiences.

  • Extra Points: "Trophy Kids" review

  • Extra Points: NCAA Abroad?

I came across an article the other day in the New York Times that caught my eye.

  • First Column: A little about me

My name is Margaret Pascale, I was born and raised in the Lynchburg/Campbell County/Bedford area.
I am a Brookville High School alumnae as well as an alumnae of Lynchburg College. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management in May of 2014.

  • Extra Points: Concealed Carry Class

This past weekend I was able to spend four hours taking a concealed carry class and learned more about having a permit and carrying a gun than I ever thought I needed to know.
First, let me start by saying I am an avid hunter and have used and been around firearms since I was young. My dad took me out on my first hunt when I was 5 years old and we ended up shooting a beautiful buck.
My mom and dad also signed up and took the class with me, so we made this a family affair.

  • Extra Points: Superbowl

Okay, here we go. These are my thoughts on the Super Bowl, the halftime show, overtime, the NFL rules and everything in between.
Personally, I believe they shouldn’t have just called that final touchdown a touchdown without reviewing it. Everything was way too close. I saw a photo online they showed the running back’s knee was down, before he fell into the endzone.

  • Extra Points: Pro-Bowl

The past week has been difficult for me in a lot of different ways. Things that were supposed to happen didn’t and things that no one ever wished to happen, happened. So of course, this week has been difficult and I have felt unfocused. But luckily I was able to have a relaxing weekend which helped.
I have been trying to filter negative stuff out of my life because it is hard to be happy when so many people are trying to drag others down when they are unhappy.
