Opinion & Analysis

  • Extra Points: Basketball

I can’t believe that after having had been suspended from one game, apologizing and coming out saying he knew what he did was wrong, Grayson Allen pushed a coach on the bench and then he grabbed another player while falling. The funniest part of that whole falling situation was the guy slapped in in the face.
Grayson Allen is a basketball player for Duke University. Allen has had numerous tripping incidents and has only been punished once.

  • Extra Points: Snow Delays

This past weekend has been crazy between games and activities being canceled because of snow and schedules being rearranged. Snow is my least favorite part of winter. I don’t really mind the cold but I do mind the snow.
Maybe I’d like snow if there weren’t so many people out on the road thinking they can drive normally in the snow, or if we actually took care of roads better, or if things didn’t just close down because a snowflake fell.

  • Extra Points: New Year

Now that the New Year is officially here and everyone is transitioning into 2017, let the mistakes of writing 2016 on the date line be minimal. Every year, I have the worst time when I go to write the date. I write the previous years date. Once I notice, I typically laugh to myself about it and correct it.

  • Extra Points: My thoughts of Duke University Basketball

I cannot believe the audacity of Grayson Allen, the Duke University basketball player. Last week he tripped another player,  and when a foul was called he threw a temper tantrum on the sidelines. His tantrum was so irate that a coach assisted by staff had to constrain him until he calmed down, and he thought a face-to-face apology would be good enough.

  • Extra Points: Its the Holiday Week

This past weekend, if you watched the Dallas Cowboys game, you probably saw Ezekiel Elliott jump into the gigantic red pot on the field after a touchdown.
Well the celebration resulted in a penalty on the field, excessive celebration, and the extra point was moved back 10 yards.
Well Monday morning the NFL released a statement that Elliott will not be fined because the celebration benefited a charity that the NFL supports.

  • Extra Points: A loss is never easy

A trophy or title does not define a person or a team. The Staunton River team has worked so hard to overcome the stigma that was put on them. They have proved to a community that once didn’t believe a State title could ever be in their future that it was.        They have overcome the loss of students, friends, and fellow athletes. They went to a State Championship and played one of the toughest games all season.
They played all 48 minutes and never gave up.

  • Extra Points: Astonished

Wow; that was about the only word I felt like I could say watching that Staunton River football team on Saturday. I don’t mean wow as a bad thing I mean wow as a good thing. I could not believe some of the plays this team was making.
Watching this Golden Eagles team reminds me of watching Brookville back when I was in school, just everything about it amazed me. Sometimes it was truly better than watching college or even the NFL.

  • Extra Points: Almost the Holidays

Thanksgiving is already here which means Christmas is almost here and it has also been one of my favorite holidays.
However, it is amazing how early they put out the Christmas stuff, last year they barely had Halloween stuff down before the Christmas/Holiday stuff was put out. This year, forget it, they had all of the Holiday stuff out before Halloween was even here.
Next year they will probably have all the Holiday stuff out in September and Halloween and Thanksgiving won’t even really be acknowledged.

  • Extra Points: November

The past few weeks have been crazy, people were so concerned about making sure everyone got out and voted and when they did and the polls we had been hearing on the news channels for the last three months were wrong people took to the streets.
Of course, this is not the first time in the last year people have taken to the streets for protests and it definitely isn’t the first time that the protests turned into riots.

I rarely find myself on the same side of an issue with Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but every now and then the ultra liberal Supreme Court Justice gets something right.
Rarely doesn’t it happen, but this week I found myself cheering Ginsburg on for comments she made to journalist Katie Couric.
