  • Hunting Skills Classes at Holiday Lake

Virginia is fortunate to have habitat that supports a wide variety of wildlife and game.  Bay, river and tidal waters provide waterfowl hunting, mountain areas offer bears to harvest.  Fields, forests and fencerows support small game of all kinds, and the thriving population of deer and wild turkeys create opportunities state-wide to get out and find game.

OVERVIEW- Fishing should be great this month! Water temperature will be in the 60’s to mid 70’s.  Best times will be cloudy days. Late afternoon is usually when fish are most active and at night later in the month. Fishing the past few weeks has been good! Most of the baitfish has moved towards the upper end of the rivers, coves and the major creeks.

  • Hunter Skills Weekends feature Cooking and Food Safety Classes

No doubt we’ve all heard the old English proverb, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”, and the same can be said for women and children.  Putting a delicious meal on the table is satisfying for both the cook and the diner regardless of gender.

  • Virginia Hunter Skills Weekends

CONCORD, N.C. – Congratulations, Joey Logano. You just drew the first get-out-of jail-free card for Talladega.

  • Helping the hungry

Hunters for the Hungry announced recently that they are the recipients of a $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation.

Laura Newell-Furniss, Director of Hunters for the Hungry said, “This gift could not come at a better time.  It will allow our program to process 1,111 deer which will yield 55,550 pounds of meat (27 tons).  When processed and packaged it will yield 222,200 quarter-pound servings of lean meat for people in need here in Virginia.

  • 'The old man and the tree'

Some of our senior citizens while away the hours engaged in vigorous rounds of mahjong.

Others from the silver-haired set are known to play bridge.  Still others may engage in bowling or golf.
        Then there's Clyde Roberts.
This gentleman gets up in the wee hours, drives his tractor into the woods, then scrambles up a 24-foot ladder to a stand perched in a tree 22 feet in the air.
