  • Forest tennis sees good week

        After losing two singles matches the Jefferson Forest boys tennis team stepped up the pace and defeated Brookville 6-3 on Thursday, May 5.
        “This match was a good way for us to finish out the regular season. Our young players stepped up and did a nice job in this match,” said Coach Tyler Johnston.

        Staunton River and Jefferson Forest both participated in track meets this past weekend.
        The Lady Eagles finished seventh with a score of 38.5 out of 16 teams and the Golden Eagle boys finished second with a score of 67 out of 17 teams at the Colonial Classic.
        Jefferson Forest traveled to Charlottesville to compete in the Dogwood Track Classic.

        Zach Peek struck out 15 Rustburg batters to lead the Jefferson Forest boys baseball team to a 7-0 victory on Wednesday, May 4.
        “I give a lot of credit to Barry Gordon, our pitching coach, on calling a great game and obviously credit to Peek for executing his pitches. I think Peek felt very comfortable especially with an early, big lead,” said Coach Ryan Gilleland.

        The Jefferson Forest girls softball team made the most of its three hits defeating Rustburg 4-2 on Wednesday, May 4.
        Rustburg went up 1-0 in the first inning. The Lady Cavaliers held Rustburg to zero runs until the Lady Red Devils plated one in the fourth inning.
        The Lady Cavaliers down 2-0 came back in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs and holding RHS scoreless the rest of the way.

        The Liberty boys soccer team started slow in the first half against E.C. Glass costing them a 6-1 loss on Wednesday, May 4. “We came out flat and Glass jumped all over us early. They scored three goals in the first 15 minutes,” said Coach Eric Seckman.

        The Jefferson Forest boys and girls lacrosse teams both defeated conference rival E.C. Glass on Wednesday, May 4.

  • Third Annual Gunnin’ for...

        The Bedford Outdoor Sportsman Association Inc. (BOSA) hosted its third annual Gunnin’ For Gobblers spring turkey hunt on Saturday, April 23.
        Seventeen physically challenged hunters from around the state plus one from North Carolina participated. Included in the group of hunters were six service veterans, one of which received the Silver Star, this nation’s third highest award for combat valor, for his efforts in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

        Several Muay Thai kick boxers from Synergy gym in Forest will be heading to New York City for the World Kickboxing Association USA National Tournament.
        The tournament will take place May 19- 22. The fighters from the Synergy gym are the only ones from the Lynchburg/Bedford area that will be attending the tournament.

        OVERVIEW- Fishing should be good this month! Water temperature will be in the 70’s.  Best times will be cloudy days and at night the month. Fishing the past few weeks has been good! The baitfish has moved to the shoreline late at night as they are trying to spawn. The warmer weather has caused fishing patterns to change. Most fish are feeding at night!
