  • Ospreys Open Season With Win;...

The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team had quite an opening day last Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The Ospreys players started the day receiving brand new uniforms—a surprise to them—and then went out and defeated New Covenant 60-50.

The uniforms were won in a contest that 323 Sports hosted.

  • Golden Eagles Soar Past Cave...

The cold did not stop the Staunton River Golden Eagles from soaring high over the Cave Spring Knights. The Golden Eagles scored 48 points in the first half en route to a 56-21 victory.

T.J. Tester made the first mark on the scoreboard with a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown. Kalip Jones was next to find the end zone on a 2-yard run making the score 12-0. Tester scored the next two touchdowns on a 10-yard run and a 29-yard run. Tester finished with four touchdowns on the night, three offensive and one defensive.

  • Sports Day-ly: The NBA Superhero...

Welcome into round two of the Superhero and NBA team comparison. Essentially a couple hundred words of me completely nerding out with my slightly above average knowledge of superheroes and my elite level of basketball knowledge. Maybe elite is not the right word to describe my basketball knowledge, that seems arrogant. We'll call it semi-elite in an effort to express my humility.

  • Perfection Obtained

Staunton River achieved one of its preseason goals–perfection. With a 60-13 beat down of the Patrick Henry Patriots the Golden Eagles are now a perfect 10-0 heading into the Region 3D playoffs.

This is the first time in school history that the Golden Eagles have finished 10-0 in the regular season.

"I thought this was the most complete game we've played this season," Head Coach Chuck Poston said. "We were clicking on offense, defense and special teams."

  • Jefferson Forest falls short in...

In the final game of the season it would have been easy for the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers (5-4) to roll over and lay down for the Heritage Pioneers (8-1). Considering the Cavaliers have eight two-way starters with season ending injuries and that Heritage's Elijah Davis plays football like its a video game, expectations may not have been very high for the Cavaliers.

  • Liberty can't hang on

Liberty's mission was simple, finish the season with a win and guarantee a spot in the playoffs. The Minutemen had to go through the Rustburg Red Devils to accomplish that task.

While Liberty was unable to come out victorious, falling 25-20, the Minutemen's season will be continuing with a berth in the Region 3C playoffs.

On the first play from scrimmage Rustburg managed to jar the ball loose from the Minutemen. The Red Devils picked up the ball and took it in for a touchdown to go up 6-0.

  • Sports Day-ly: The NBA Superhero...

The NBA season is officially underway and I am incredibly excited. I love basketball in fact recently it has become my favorite sport.

One thing I also have recently re-fell in love with is superheroes. For whatever reason when I was 20 I really started to get back into superheroes. Even now at 22-years old I often walk about with a Batman backpack that is originally meant for a 10-year old.

  • Staunton River holds off Fleming

Staunton River picked up their third win of the season on Oct. 23 with a 3-0 sweep of William Fleming.

The Golden Eagles came out of the gate quickly and efficiently. They won the first set 25-10 to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set there was a similar offensive output from the Golden Eagles. Their defense was the best it was all night in the second set. Holding the Colonels to just seven points in the second.
