  • Jefferson Forest softball falls...

        The Jefferson Forest softball team left Liberty Christian Academy in the dust, defeating the new Seminole team 11-1 in a rematch on Saturday, April 16.
        The Lady Cavaliers went up 4-0 in the first innings and did not hold back in the second and third innings increasing the score in each. The Cavaliers gave up one run in the top of the fifth but it was not enough for LCA to make a comeback.

        Liberty Baseball player Lance Parker hit long to center field and brought in a walk-off RBI on a double in the bottom of the seventh to lead the M-Men to a 4-3 victory over Brookville Friday, April 15.
        “We came out and ended up scoring first and then Brookville came back quick and never gave in,” said Coach Mitch House.

        Liberty softball held the reigning state champions, Brookville, to a 0-0 game until the eighth inning when the Minutemen gave up eight runs on Friday, April 15.
        It was a game of defense and careful field planning.
        For Liberty: Mahalea Scicchitano went 1-2; Brianna Whorley went 1-3; Haylee Wood went 1-4; Kim Sharrett went 1-4; and Kasey Carr went 0-3.

        The Liberty boys soccer team shut out Brookville 4-0 on Friday, April 15.
        “The boys played well Friday against Brookville. Everyone played their role pretty well and because everyone did their part we had some success. Things work well when the guys are working hard and doing their individual part,” said Coach Eric Seckman.

        The Staunton River baseball team continues to roll as the Golden Eagles shut out Alleghany 3-0 Friday, April 15. “The game was really tight and it was good to see the team win a tight game,” said Coach Brian Divers.

        Alleghany showed Staunton River boys soccer a physical match on Friday, April 15. The Golden Eagles dominated the field defeating the Mountaineers 5-1.
    “It easily could have been a different result,” said Coach Kris McCoy.

    The Staunton River girls soccer team dominated the action and defeated Alleghany 9-1 on Friday, April 15. “We ended the game after 70 minutes,” said Coach Jeff D’Auito.  
        The Lady Eagles went up 4-0 in the first half and possessed the action for more than 50 percent of the first half. River took 13 shots on goal, passed up the field 32 times and fouled five times during the first half.

  • 2016 BYRA /ML Realty Regatta

    The annual BYRA Spring Sailing Regatta will take place on April 30 and May 1, 2016 at the Pelican Point Yacht Club, Smith Mountain Lake
        This premier racing event is held on the Blackwater River at Smith Mountain Lake and is open to all keel boats.
         This year’s Regatta will be held on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 and it is sponsored by the Blackwater Yacht Racing Association (BYRA), and for the seventh consecutive year, by Title Sponsor Mary Lou McDonald, owner and principal broker of ML Realty in Huddleston.

            Staunton River couldn’t have asked much more from its pitching staff last week. The Golden Eagles boys baseball team started its district play this past week taking on William Fleming and William Byrd.
            River defeated Byrd 10-0 in five innings on Friday, April 8. “Byrd is probably one of our biggest rivals so it’s a game we always gear up for,” said Coach Brian Divers.
