    The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy (SMLCA) Ospreys put their 11-game win streak on the line against rival Dayspring Christian Academy in the VACA Regional Semi-Finals on Friday Feb. 16. The Ospreys defeated the Lions 78-65.

    The Lions had been victorious in all three of the previous meetings between these two teams. The Ospreys had the opportunity to get them when it counted most.

  • Bees too much for Liberty

    Liberty put Brookville in a spot the Lady Bees had not often found themselves in this season. The Lady Minutemen completely flustered their opponent. An aggressive defense mixed with fast paced offense held Brookville scoreless for the first five minutes of the game.

  • Liberty falls at the buzzer

    Liberty had the game in the palm of its hand but a defensive breakdown on the final play ended their run for the Seminole District title.

     “Before the tournament we talked about control what you can control,” Liberty Head Coach Emilee Dunton said after a first round victory against Rustburg. “Obviously it’s going to be a hostile environment when it’s win or go home.”

  • JF ends Liberty's season

    At the beginning the Liberty basketball program was filled with question marks. The team was young and looking for leadership and needed players who could score and rebound on a nightly basis.

    Fast forward about three months and the team went toe-to-toe with the No. 2 seed in the Seminole District, and Bedford County rival, Jefferson Forest. The Cavaliers were victorious 50-47 but Liberty pushed a top team to the edge.

    The Blue Ridge District opening round matchup between William Fleming and Staunton River had no shortage of offense. Playing at Lord Botetourt Friday Feb. 9 the game served as a rubber match between the two teams this year.

    Staunton River won the first matchup and Fleming won the final in the regular season. Fleming had the upper hand in this matchup, defeating Staunton River 78-77.

  • Abby Light signs with Ferrum

    Surrounded by friends, family and coaches Staunton River soccer star Abby Light signed her Letter of Intent to continue her career an hour south at Ferrum College.

    “Last year was a learning year for our team,” Staunton River Head Coach Shaun Leonard said. “We went into the season last year trying to figure out how to replace about 85% of our offense, lost to graduation. Abby really stepped up and took charge in trying to find ways for us to score as a team.”
