    Liberty v. Staunton River

        Liberty and Staunton River had a rematch this past Thursday. Liberty fell to Staunton River 3-0, but did not go down without a fight.
        The first set went by quickly as Staunton River jumped on to Liberty. The Lady Minutemen fell 25-8 in the first set.

        Staunton River exploded in the first quarter to get a quick jump on Waynesboro during the match up last Friday. The Golden Eagles flew to a 42-7 victory over the Little Giants.
        “I thought we played a good game overall,” said Coach Chuck Poston.

  • Forest falls to Patrick Henry

        The Jefferson Forest football team lost its first regular season game in three years after falling short of a first down with less than two minutes in the game. The Cavaliers fell 31-28 to Patrick Henry this past Friday.
        “I think they were a very good team. We played much better Friday night than we did the previous week,” said Coach Bob Christmas. “We have made tremendous improvements from week one to week two.”

        When it mattered most the Liberty defense came up big, turning back a two point conversion attempt with less than three minutes left in the game to seal a 28-27 victory over Rockbridge last Friday.
    “For the most part I was pretty pleased,” said Coach Chris Watts. “We had a few let downs on defense in the second half. But aside from that I thought we played pretty well.”

  • Goode Recreation dedicates new...

        The Goode Recreation Association (GRA) dedicated a new soccer field on Soccer Opening Day this past Saturday behind the Goode Rescue Squad.
        GRA Soccer Opening Day included the introduction of 101 soccer players and coaches, a dedication ceremony for the newly acquired soccer complex, a soccer skills clinic, scrimmage games between GRA teams, and food for all who attended.

        Staunton River’s Brayden Epperly finished first in the 2000 meter high school open and Liberty’s Alexis Mattson finished eighth in the girls 2k splits at the Blacksburg Relays at Blacksburg High School this past Saturday.
        Both LHS and SR saw runners place high during the 2k events.
        Both Lady Minutemen and Lady Golden Eagles competed in the girls 2k splits.

            Liberty and Jefferson Forest participated in the second Seminole District golf match on Wednesday, August 24.
            In the nine hole match JF took first place with a score of 152, Liberty took second with 179, Brookville took third with 220 and Heritage took fourth with 242.

            Staunton River volleyball defeated Liberty in four sets in a Bedford County Rival match on Wednesday, August 24.
            In the first set Liberty struggled against River, and River took the set 25-20.
            Liberty came back in the second set and blew SR out of the water with a 25-10 set win.

        Five fumbles and a controversial call on a field goal cost Liberty’s shot at a season-opening victory Friday night at Franklin County. Last year the Minutemen defeated Franklin Co in the season opener.
