Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and Virginia Baptist Hospital (LGH/VBH) were recently awarded a five-star overall rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

CMS annually assigns star ratings to hospitals nationwide based on their performance across the five quality categories of Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience and Timely & Effective Care with more stars reflecting higher performance. Analysis of specific measures within each quality category is used to determine each category’s score which are then combined to create a Hospital Summary Score with each hospital’s performance being compared across all hospitals in the United States who also submitted their data to CMS. Only 483 hospitals in the nation and 13 in Virginia received a five-star rating this year.
