On Tuesday, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) was working with school officials at Staunton River High School (SRHS) on a possible threat at the school.

Bedford County Sheriff’s SROs and investigators were at the school all morning investigating the alleged threat.

Investigators identified the individual who is believed to have made the possible threat and interviewed that person at the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. No further information on the investigation was available at press time.

Ryan Edwards, public relations coordinator for Bedford County Public Schools, said numerous parents went to the school to remove their children Tuesday, the total number of students absent was between 150-200.

“Whereas we completely understand our parent's concerns, we are abundantly confident that Staunton River High School is a safe learning environment today,” a release from the school system stated. “We continue to have an increased law enforcement presence at the school to ensure it stays this way.”

The following message was sent out to parents of students at Staunton River High and Middle schools from SRHS Principal Dr. Josh Cornett:

            “Good Morning Golden Eagle Families,

“I want to inform you that a post was issued on social media last night stating a possible threat at SRHS. We have been closely working with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office since learning of this threat to investigate all concerns. I want to ensure you we are confident that our campus is safe and will continue to put student safety as our top priority. Also, we always appreciate our community being vigilant. Please don't hesitate to let the school and Sheriff's Office know if you learn of any additional information. We are looking forward to a smooth Tuesday with the dedicated help of our law enforcement team.”
