Working with developer on project

The Economic Development Authority of the town of Bedford (EDA) and Dogwood Development Company, Inc. announced last week that they are pursuing the development and construction of a business class hotel within the town limits.
In conjunction with a market study commissioned by the town in 2016 and independent research and work conducted by both the EDA and Dogwood Development Company, Inc. over the last several months, both parties have decided to move forward with seeking a package of incentives and financing to bring a business class hotel to the area.
Dogwood Development Company, Inc has selected and contracted to purchase a parcel of the land for the potential hotel in                           the   Harmony   Commercial Development located within the town on US 460 adjacent to the US Army’s Reserve Training Center . The property is about one mile from the D-Day Memorial. The land will be deeded to the EDA as part of the development agreement.
In making this announcement, both parties agree that the development of a business class hotel in the town is an important and needed addition to the economic development strategies of the town, including the development and growth of the tourism industry and the recruitment of new industries and jobs to the area.
Said James Oliver, president of Dogwood Development Company, Inc., “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the town of Bedford and the EDA on this exciting economic development opportunity which is greatly needed in the area.  Not only will the construction and operation of a business class hotel create and support a lot of temporary and permanent local jobs, it will also be a critical long term tool for the EDA and the town to use to expand tourism and to recruit and retain other industries which will translates into more, needed jobs in the future as well as an expanding tax base to bring in more local revenue.  We look forward to a vigorous team effort to achieve this critical goal.”
John Putney, chairman of the town’s EDA, stated: “Exciting things are happening in the town of Bedford and we are pleased to be moving forward with this potential project which is a great example of both the commitment and enormous potential that exist here.”
Acting Town Manager Bart Warner agreed. “The Town is extremely grateful for the leadership and vision demonstrated by Dogwood and the members of the Town EDA which have led us to this point,” said Warner.  “The new hotel should prove to be a welcome addition to our current lodging offerings and provide great benefits to business activity in general.  We look forward to this expanded opportunity to welcome future visitors and guests to our beloved and beautiful community.”
