Bedford County Cooling Stations Open at the Following Locations:

Citizens Encouraged to Take Heat-Related Safety Precautions

For Friday, Saturday & Sunday July 6-8, 2012

Bedford County, in cooperation with local organizations is opening the following cooling stations throughout the locality:

  • Bedford Moose Lodge – 1897 E. Lynchburg Salem Tpk, Bedford, VA

  • Bedford County Parks & Recreation – 1257 County Farm Rd, Bedford, VA

“The Old Nursing Home” open July 6 from 08:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Friday only

**All of the above cooling stations are designed to provide cooling service at this time. Please be prepared to provide your own snacks, lounge chairs, personal items and recreation. No pet accommodations at this time. Accommodations may be limited at the above locations.**

Now that clean up and utility restoration from the wind storm is in progress throughout Bedford County, as supplies last there is water and ice available to those who are still in critical need. The drive through operation at Bedford Elementary School for water and ice has been terminated.

On Friday July 6, 2012 at 08:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. citizens who have critical needs may contact Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue at

540-587-0700 option 5, for availability of water and ice.
