Bethlehem UMC to dedicate completed building project

Sunday, Aug. 21 marks Dedication Sunday at Bethlehem United Methodist in Moneta for completion of its new building. The construction project, which has been in the planning since 2004, includes the addition of offices, classrooms, an elevator, a music suite, and narthex, as well as an expanded fellowship hall and a new kitchen.

A single service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21 will be followed by a potluck luncheon. Special guests and music will highlight the dedication of the new building. The Reverend Larry Davies, Superintendent of the Lynchburg District, will be the guest preacher.

In addition, Friday, Aug. 19, at 9 p.m. a brief service for dedicating and lighting the new steeple will be held.

The community is invited to attend both events at the church, located at 13586 Old Moneta Road, across from the Smith Mountain Lake/Moneta Library.

Poplar Spring Homecoming Day

Poplar Spring Baptist Church of Goode, will be celebrating its Annual Homecoming Day on the first Sunday in September, Sept. 14. The Rev. Dr. Herman J. Robertson, Pastor of the Poplar Spring Baptist Church will be the speaker for the 11 a.m. service with music rendered by the Poplar Spring Gospel Chorus.

Dinner will be served immediately after the morning service and the Rev. William Goode, Jr., Pastor of Royal Tabernacle Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL will be the speaker for the afternoon service beginning at 3 p.m. accompanied by The New Horizons Singers of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Lynchburg. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The Annual Revival services at the Poplar Spring Baptist Church will begin on Wednesday night Sept. 7, through Friday night Sept. 9. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 7 p.m. each evening and revival services will begin at 7:30 p.m. with different ministers and choirs rendering the service each night.

On Wednesday night the Rev. Dennis Moody, Pastor of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church of Big Island, will be the guest speaker accompanied by his choir.

On Thursday night, the Rev. William Watson, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Goode, will be the guest speaker accompanied by his choir.

On Friday night the Rev. Albert Reid of Forest will be the guest speaker accompanied by the Poplar Spring Mass Choir.


Community Bible Study

Family & Friends Day

Mt. Plain Baptist Church, 3746 Johnson Mountain Rd., Evington, will celebrate Family & Friends Day, Sunday, Aug. 21, a day full of fun with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. a short worship service at 11 a.m. with Pastor C.E. Rhodes, Sr., preaching. There will be games available for all ages, the best of best competitions, horseshoe, three-on-three basketball, volleyball, dunking booth, bouncer, puzzles mania, egg toss, water balloon race, and new this year will be the Wii competition and corn toss. Homecoming service

On Aug. 21, Court Street United Methodist Church will be having homecoming services. The Rev. Kevin Edwards Sr. will bring the noon message. The Halesford United Methodist Church choir and Melodi Huston on piano. Lunch will be served after the service. The will be no evening service.


Mt. Zion Baptist Church

There will be a program at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. featuring songs, skits, and a Sermonette.


Homecoming services at Montvale First Baptist Church

The Montvale First Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Homecoming Services on Sunday, Aug. 21. The morning service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Charles E. Twine, Jr. delivering the sermon and music by the Montvale Gospel Chorus. The evening service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Rolando Twine, Pastor Twine's brother, and choir from Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, with music by their Gospel Chorus. For more information, contact 540-819-1560.


Prayer and Praise

Evington United Methodist Church will be having its 11th annual fundraiser, “A Prayer and Praise Service,” on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. Speakers and music provided by Chaplain Blonnie Gregory, the Trucking for Jesus Ministry and Pastor Roville Gregory Jr., pastor of Bethel Bible Church in Appomattox. An ice cream social will follow. The church is located at the corner of Church Lane and Colonial Highway.


Steeple dedication

Mount Hermon Baptist Church will be having their steeple dedication on Aug. 21, 11a.m.  followed by lunch and fellowship.

Children of the World

August 24th at 7pm  the "Children of the World International Children's Choir " will be performing at Mountain View United Methodist Church off Rt 221 in Forest Virginia across from Forest Middle School. They are sponsored by World Help Organization which is located in Forest and come from all over the world. A love offering will be taken  to show support for their project.
