Poplar Spring Homecoming Day

Poplar Spring Baptist Church of Goode, will be celebrating its Annual Homecoming Day on the first Sunday in September, Sept. 14. The Rev. Dr. Herman J. Robertson, Pastor of the Poplar Spring Baptist Church will be the speaker for the 11 a.m. service with music rendered by the Poplar Spring Gospel Chorus.

Dinner will be served immediately after the morning service and the Rev. William Goode, Jr., Pastor of Royal Tabernacle Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL will be the speaker for the afternoon service beginning at 3 p.m. accompanied by The New Horizons Singers of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Lynchburg. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The Annual Revival services at the Poplar Spring Baptist Church will begin on Wednesday night Sept. 7, through Friday night Sept. 9. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 7 p.m. each evening and revival services will begin at 7:30 p.m. with different ministers and choirs rendering the service each night.

On Wednesday night the Rev. Dennis Moody, Pastor of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church of Big Island, will be the guest speaker accompanied by his choir.

On Thursday night, the Rev. William Watson, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Goode, will be the guest speaker accompanied by his choir.

On Friday night the Rev. Albert Reid of Forest will be the guest speaker accompanied by the Poplar Spring Mass Choir.


Revival teachings

Threshing Floor Revival Teachings are being held at Freedom Outreach Ministries, 212 E. Washington St., Bedford, located beside Vista Foods, on Aug. 24 and Aug. 31. Facilitator is Tara Archer from Living Waters Ministries in Lynchburg. Times for each service is noon. For more information, contact Evangelist Emma Hicks at (434) 525-0346 or 587-3664. A free "Lunch with God" will be served following the service.


Community Bible Study

Children of the World

August 24th at 7pm  the "Children of the World International Children's Choir " will be performing at Mountain View United Methodist Church off Rt 221 in Forest Virginia across from Forest Middle School. They are sponsored by World Help Organization which is located in Forest and come from all over the world. A love offering will be taken  to show support for their project.

Gospel concert

Halesford Baptist Church will host The Driven Quartet in concert at the church on Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. The admission is free, but a love offering will be accepted. For more information, call 540-719-1538.


Sunday, Aug. 28



The Western Light Baptist Church Senior Choir will have in concert The Freeman Family Singers on Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. The Gospel Fellowship Temple Chorus will be the guests for this service.


Beckon Call concert

Beckon Call will be in concert Aug. 28, 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Saunders Grove Church of the Brethren, 3034 Saunders Grove Drive, Moneta.


Gospel sing, cook-out

Mentow Baptist Church, Huddleston, will be  hosting a community-wide gospel sing and cook-out on Sunday evening, August 28, at 5:30 p.m.  The gospel music will feature the Lynch Station Baptist Men's Group as well as Steve Hackworth and members of the New Journey Group.  Following the singing, there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and ice cream. 

There is no charge for this event, but Mentow will be accepting a love offering to help with family expenses of a local girl who is awaiting bone marrow transplant, at Duke University.

A group is forming to study spiritual growth. Non-denominational focusing on the care, development and well being of the soul and spirit. It will be Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. promptly.
