Lighthouse FWBC Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School June 18 - 22 for ages 3 through grades 6.  An adult class will be offered, as well.  Hours are 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Friday night will be Family Night to include a picnic and Matt The Puppetman.  Activities will include worship, Bible study, music, crafts, recreation and snacks.  Address is 942 Burks Hill Road, Bedford across from Liberty Lake Park.  Call if you need a ride on our van at 540-587-8962.  Visit the Web site at www.lighthousefwbc.com.


Cleaning the cemetery

Suck Spring Baptist Church will be cleaning up the church cemetery to prepare for mowing to begin May 26. If anyone would like to save flowers or items left on graves or around tombstones, pick them up by May 25. If anyone has questions about cemetery requirements, call 540-586-3709 and leave a message.


Spring revival

Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Pastor Jesse Waller, will be having Spring Revival May 14-18. Pastor Russell Lee from the Chapel Grove Baptist Church will be the preacher for the week. Prayer service at 7 p.m. and revival service at 7:30 p.m. each evening.


Youth revival

On May 15– 17, Oakmulgee Baptist Church, the Rev. C.J. Taylor as Pastor, will be having Youth Revival. The Rev. Chad Younger of Franklin Grove Missionary Baptist Church will be the speaker each night. Prayer and Praise begins at 7 p.m. and revival services will begin at 7:30 p.m.


Learning about world hunger

The youth at Morgans Baptist Church in Bedford county will be participating in a 30 Hour Famine from May 18-20 to raise funds for World Vision and to raise awareness of hunger. This will be their fist time in doing this. These are local kids who go to Staunton River and some that are homeschooled.


Worship services

The Chestnut Grove Baptist Church will  be having  worship services on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of each month beginning May 13 with Sunday School  at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m.


Youth Revival services

Youth Revival services will be held at Olive Branch Baptist Church May 16-18. Minister Regina Bonds, Haven of Rest Church, will speak. Prayer and Praise at 7 p.m.; the preached word at 7:30 p.m. Different area choirs each night. The Rev. Alvin E. Smith is pastor.




Saturday, May 19



The Women of Washington Street Baptist Church will be sponsoring a breakfast in the church's fellowship hall on Saturday, May 19, 8 a.m. All are welcome to enjoy the breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs, fried potatoes, fried apples, biscuits, juice and coffee. A $5 suggested donation.


Fish Fry

A Fish Fry will be held at Otterville United Methodist Church on May 19 from 5-7 p.m. All you can eat, take out available. Cost: $9 for adults; children 6-12, $4; under 6, no charge.


Mountain Fest

Saturday, May 19 at Mountain View UMC, 1077 Viewpoint Lane in Forest. Lynch Mountain Ramblers, Taylor Hart, Baked Red Klay are all performing at the second annual "Mountain Fest" in Forest at the  Mountain View United Methodist Church across from Forest Middle School on Rt 221. Quilt Raffle, Craft Sale and  Bake Sale as well as hot dogs, pulled pork , popcorn and sno cones. Even a live auction at 6 p.m. Family fun for the bargain price of  $5 a carload. This is a community, family  event  from 4-7 p.m. More information  is available  by contacting the church at 434-525-6612. Donations are  accepted for craft items and baked goodies. Monies raised go towards assisting various missions, including the youth ministry of  helping and feeding the homeless in Lynchburg and  summer Vacation Bible School.


Emmaus UMC Country Breakfast & Yard Sale

Emmaus UMC will hold a country breakfast and yard sale Saturday, May 19 from 7-10 a.m.  An all you can eat country breakfast will include sausage, bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, and much more.  All are welcome.  Freewill donation.  Yard sale items available.  2282 Meadors Spur Road, Moneta.  540-297-9038.


Pig Pickin' BBQ

A Pig Pickin' BBQ will be held Saturday, May 19, from noon to 5 p.m. at Diamond Hill Baptist Church, Moneta, 3541 Horseshoe Bend Rd. The fundraising event will include plenty of food, there will be pulled BBQ with all the fixins. Live music will feature Ricky Ellis and The Common Ground, as well as other local talent.


Benefit Sing At Lighthouse FWBC

AWANA program

Sunday, May 20. Morgans Baptist Church is having its AWANA program this Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for preschoolers (age 3) through eighth grade.  Join us for the Awards Ceremony Night when all clubbers will be recognized for their work.  Clubbers and their family members are encouraged to come for food and fun.



Bethlehem Baptist Church will be having its Homecoming Sunday, May 20, 10:30 a.m. - noon, with a luncheon as it celebrates 185 years. The pastor, the Rev. Grant Harbridge, will bring the message and there will be lots of singing. Route 24/Wyatts Way, Huddleston.


Annual Women's Day

The Ladies of Washington Street Baptist Church, where the Rev. Henry A. Henderson is pastor, will be observing their Annual Women's Day on Sunday, May 20 at 11 a.m. The special guest speaker will be Minister June Taylor of Lynchburg. The Women's Day choir of Washington Street Baptist Church will render the music under the direction of Dr. Harriet Taylor.


Pastor's 5th anniversary

The Poplar Spring Baptist Church of Goode will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Dr. Herman J. Robertson on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. The guest preacher for this will be the Rev. Terry Echols, pastor of the Forest Level Baptist Church of Forest, accompanied by the church's gospel choir, ushers and church family.


Pastor Anniversary

Gospel Fellowship Temple will be celebrating the anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. John Spinner and First Lady Sister Georgia Spinner on May 20 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Aaron Payne and Oak Grove Baptist Church Forest will be the guest. Following the service, dinner will be served.

Spring Festival

Chestnut Hill FWB Church Ladies Auxiliary will hold its Spring Festival on Saturday, May 26. The church is located three miles north of Big Island on Route 501. The event begins at 8 a.m. with breakfast along with a yard sale and bake sale in the church fellowship hall. BBQ and hot dogs will also be available for lunch. From 1-3 p.m. there will be a benefit gospel sing in the church sanctuary. Offering received at the singing will go toward replacing the carpet in the church Sunday School rooms. Those singing for the benefit are Janice Perkins, Eula Wells, Bobby Phillips, The Stevens Families and the Sharon Baptist Church.

Virginia Spirituals in Concert, Sunday, May 27, 3 p.m. at Otterville Baptist Church, Bedford. Reed Creek Baptist Church Choir will be guests. Men and Women in Black and White, sponsored by Senior Choir of Otterville. Rev. M.D. Mays, Pastor.


Outdoor singing

Outdoor Singing will be held May 27, 6 p.m. at Cool Spring P.H. Church, 3453 Buffalo Run, Thaxton, with the Cornetts. The youth will sell food as a fundraiser. Bring your lawn chair.

Epworth yard, bake sale

Epworth UM Church, corner of Merriman Way and Booker T. Washington is having

a yard/bake sale on June 9, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Spaces are available for $10. Baked goods include bread, fired apple pies, cream pies, cakes and much more. Order your fried apple pies by calling 721-4492. Proceeds from this sale will go to the Smile Train, (children with cleft pallets).
