Hickory Grove UMC celebrates 50th anniversary
Hickory Grove United Methodist Church will hold its 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 2, and Sunday, Oct. 3. Saturday’s festivities begin at noon with dinner at 12:30 p.m. followed by special music and games for children. The Golden Anniversary Service will be on Sunday at 9 a.m. While Hickory Grove United Methodist Church has existed as a congregation for over 100 years, this 50 Years of Faith and Fellowship event is a celebration of the church building where members worship today.

Mentow Baptist Church, Huddleston, will be hosting a revival starting Sunday evening, September 19, and continuing through Wednesday, September 22, at 7:00 each evening. On Sunday evening, there will be a covered-dish sinner starting at 5:45.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Tom Stocks, who is Regional Field Strategist and Deacon Training Specialist for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board (BGAV). Prior to 2008, he served as pastor for 19 years at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church of Roanoke. He and his wife, Paula, still reside in Roanoke, where she is a third grade school teacher at one of the Roanoke County schools. They have two daughters - Lindsey Rachel and Ashley Margaret, who both attend Radford University. Dr. Stocks received his Doctor of Ministry from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond and his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also received degrees from Appalachian State University and Mars Hill College.

Fall Revival Services - Montvale First Baptist Church
The Montvale First Baptist Church and pastor, Rev. Charles E. Twine, Jr. will hold their annual Fall Revival Services this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, September 15, 16, and 17. The guest speaker for the Revival will be Rev. Rolando Twine from the Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. Devotions will begin each night at 7 p.m. and service will begin at 7:30 p.m. The following guest churches will provide the musical ministry each night: Wednesday - Blue Ridge Baptist Church; Thursday - Amsterdam Baptist Church; and Friday - Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Thaxton Community Revival Sept. 18-23
The churches of Thaxton invite you to our annual Thaxton Community Revival with Evangelist Jack Clark preaching. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday Sept 18-Cool Spring Presbyterian Church An all music tribute to Harrel Parker featuring the Clark Quartet and local and church musicians. Preaching will begin Sunday.

New Life Community Baptist Church relocating
New Life Community Baptist Church of Bedford VA is relocating on October 3 to the Tharp Chapel at 320 North Bridge Street, Bedford. The church will conduct Sunday Bible study at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. The parking lot and access to the facility are at the rear of the building. The building has an easy, handicap accessible entrance. A special emphasis called ACTS will be conducted during October. ACTS stands for All the Church Together on Sunday. Pastor Ross will be preaching from the book of Acts on references to the church being "together".


Saturday, Sept. 18

Choir anniversary
The Senior Choir of Washington Street Baptist Church where the Rev. Henry A. Henderson is the pastor, will be celebrating its 144th Choir Anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. They have invited Sarah Murphy from Promise Land Baptist Church, Moneta, to be in concert. Also the Taylor Family (Rev. E. McKinley Taylor, Sr. and his family) from Antioch Baptist Church, Peaksville, will be in concert.

Musical tribute to Harrel Parker
On Saturday, September 18 at 7 p.m., Cool Spring Presbyterian Church will hold a musical tribute to Harrel Parker. Harrel played Country and Blue Grass Gospel music in Bedford County for over 50 years He played guitar and fiddle at Cool Spring and was a member of the Gospel Echos.
Anyone who ever played or sang with Harrel is welcome to take part in the service. Each of the Thaxton churches is sending musicians for the kick off of the Thaxton Community Revival. The Clark Quartet will also sing.

Sunday, Sept. 19

Woman's Day Service
Sunday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. Prayer Outreach Ministries will have a Women's Day service celebrating The Just Moms and Me 5th Anniversary. Guests will be the Rev. Ruth Charlton from Silver Grove Baptist and Gwenette Jones from Mt. Pisgah CME Church. The church is located on 224 South Bridge Street (across from Vista Foods).

Choir Anniversary
The Youth Choir of Gospel Fellowship Temple will be celebrating their choir anniversary on Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. featuring The Sensational Harmoneers of Central Va. in concert. Pastor is the Rev. John Spinner.

Pastor’s Appreciation service
Mt. Plain Baptist Church, 3746 Johnson Mountain Road, Evington, will hold an appreciation service for the Rev. C.E. Rhodes, Sr. to celebrate his 26 years anniversary serving as pastor, on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Isaac Monroe, pastor of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and his church family will be our guests. Lunch will be served.

The Western Light Baptist Church family will be celebrating Homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 19, starting at 11 a.m. The Rev. James E. Johnson, Jr., pastor, will render the morning service along with the Gospel chorus and musicians Sister Parker, Sister Shelton, Brother Blake and Brother Robertson. Lunch will follow. At 3 p.m. the Rev. Crystal Smith and the Hill Street Baptist Church family will bring the evening service.

Catholics Returning Home
Holy Name of Mary will conduct “Welcome Home,” a program for non-practicing Catholics who are thinking about returning to the Church. The seven week series offers a beginning to spiritual reunion and a deeper relationship with Christ and His Church. It begins on Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m., in the social hall. Saturday, Oct. 9

Downtown Sounds of Praise Concert
The Downtown Moneta Association and Lyons Team Realtors have announced the first Downtown Sounds of Praise Concert on Saturday, Oct. 9, Starting at 5 p.m. Concert will feature several local church ministries, organizations and bands, including groups from Liberty University. Kendra Cook Penn, longtime soloist at Thomas Road Baptist Church, will also be performing. There are still opportunities for musical ministries and bands to sign-up.
