Peggy Shifflett - Lunchbox Lecture

12/05/2013 - 12:00pm - 1:30pm

A former professor at Radford University Shifflett, has written four books about her experiences growing up in Appalachia. Her newest and fourth book is On the Way to Toe Town: Learning, Curiosity, Rebellion, and Play in Traditional Appalachian Childhood, Shifflett dwells on the informal education of Appalachian children - how they learned in the family, how adults responded to their curious questions, and how they rebelled. Shifflett includes a description of games and toys handed down over the generations. As usual her work is interspersed with personal stories and reflections on her own childhood.

Join us in the second floor George & Louise Kegley Gallery for our Lunchbox Lectures, held on the first Thursday of each month. The price is $10 for members of the History Museum of Western Virginia and $15 for non-members and the cost includes lunch.  We ask that you please RSVP at least 24 hours prior to the lecture.
