County gets some bad news on landfill

By John Barnhart

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors got some bad news when they met with Sheldon Cash, director of public works, and Mike Dorsey, the solid waste division manager, to talk trash Monday evening.
The current landfill cell will fill up much faster than thought. The supervisors were told that the cell will run out of space in two years. It is now taking the state Department of Environmental Quality two years to issue permits for landfill expansions and Cash said it will take three years to construct the new cell.
