Weather forces cancellation of SML Walk to End Poverty

-A A +A

To all SML Walk to End Poverty participants & supporters,

The Lake Christian Ministries’ 2018 SML Walk to End Poverty, scheduled for Saturday, September 15, has been cancelled. We have been notified that the State of VA has issued a closure for the SML State Park this weekend due to the anticipated severe storm, and with the forecast for flooding rains and possible strong winds, we do not want to risk the safety of our walkers and volunteers by attempting to hold the walk at an alternate location.

To preserve the fun and fundraising of this event, we have scheduled a Poverty Walk Celebration on Tuesday, September 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. There will be hot dogs, T-shirt pick-up, live music, door prizes, sign-up for the “A Simple Gesture” pantry pick-up program and the awarding of a $250 prize for the team with the most walkers. We want everyone who planned to walk to come celebrate and show that Florence can’t get the best of us here at SML! Those who had planned to donate this Saturday are encouraged to bring their LCM contributions to the September 25th celebration.

We appreciate the support, excitement, and work that have gone into the SML Walk to End Poverty and look forward to your participation on September 25th and again in 2019!
