• Magdaline K. Webster, 83, Bedford

        Magdaline Mary Koch Webster, 83, of Bedford, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home. Born in Lebanon, PA on Oct. 7, 1925, a daughter of the late Peter Koch and Eva Miheilof Koch.

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ray Webster; a daughter, Melissa W. Davidson; a son, Frank Edward Webster; a granddaughter, Kaleigh Grace Webster; two sisters, Mary Pefsley and Anna Robinson; four brothers, Jacob Koch, Peter Koch, Joseph Koch and Thomas Koch.

  • Robert L. Wilson Sr., 74, Goode

        Robert Lee Wilson Sr., 74, of Goode, passed away June 26, 2009, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. His wife, of 54 years, Patricia Miles Wilson survives him.

        Born Aug. 25, 1934, in Bedford County, he was a son of the late Charlie C. Wilson and Elizabeth Goodman Wilson. He was retired from GE/Ericcson, and was a member of Rock Pike Baptist Church. Mr. Wilson was a United States Air Force veteran.

  • Timothy L. Witt, 51, Bedford

        Timothy Lee Witt, a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend, 51 of Bedford passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Thursday, Sept. 26, 1957, in Bedford County, a Son of the late Oswald H. Witt and the late Faye Virginia Hughes Witt.

        He was a Supervisor at Rubatex.

  • W. Eugene Karnes, 90, Vinton

        W. Eugene “Gene” Karnes, 90, of  Vinton passed away Friday, June 19, 2009, at  Berkshire Nursing Home.  He was born on Thursday, June 20, 1918, in Bedford County, a son of the late Arthur Cleveland Karnes and the Kate Toms Karnes. 

        He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Karnes; three brothers, Dean, Claude and Albert Karnes and a sisters-in-law, Estelle Karnes.  

  • Evelyn M. Smith, 88, Bedford

        Evelyn Minnie Smith, 88, of Bedford passed away in Oakwood Manor on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. She was born April 26, 1921, in Bedford County.  

  • Leonard J. Stanley, Jr., 63, Bedford

        Leonard James Stanley, Jr., 63, of Bedford, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at his residence.  He was born in Bedford County on Feb. 9, 1946, a son of Luella Stevens Stanley of Bedford and the late Leonard James Stanley, Sr. 

        Junior was a mechanic with VDOT and will be remembered by all who knew him.

        In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his son, Leonard Dwayne Stanley.

        Junior was a member of Jehovah’s Witnessess.

  • Ray B. Stephenson, Jr., 90, Bedford

        Ray Bryan (Tom) Stephenson Jr., 90, of  Bedford and formerly of Jacksonville and Pittsfield, IL.  passed away Friday, June 19, 2009, at the home of his daughter.  He was born on Sunday, Jan. 19, 1919, in Pike County, IL., a son of the late Ray Stephenson and the late Dewey Rush Stephenson. 

        He was also preceded in death by his son Roger W. Stephenson and a grandson.

        He farmed for many years in the Detroit area of Pike County and retired from Eisenhower School in Jacksonville.

    Elaine Shortt Maynor, 52 of  Bedford passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Wednesday, July 25, 1956, in Roanoke, a daughter of Harold Shortt and Eveleen Snead Shortt of Bedford, who survive. 

        She was  preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Pluma Shortt and her maternal grandparents, Mack and Rose Snead. 

        She was a Customer Service Secretary at Singer Furniture Company. 

  • David J. Robertson, 60, Thaxton

        David Junior “Doodle” Robertson, 60, of Thaxton, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Born Dec. 13, 1948, in Bedford, a son of the late Walter F. Robertson and Lettie M. Overstreet Robertson. 

        He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Robertson and Leonard “Charlie” Robertson; one sister, Linda Love; and a very special cousin, Calvin Ruff.

        Doodle was a handyman that enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors.  He attended Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.
