• Owen T. Cox, 72, Goode

    Owen Talmadge “Tally” Cox, 72, of Goode, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Janet Ann Noell Cox. Tally was born in Lynchburg, on Jan. 21, 1936. He was the son of the late Powhatan Moorman Cox and Elizabeth Franklin Cox.

    Edna Clara Belle Jones Brown, 85, of Bedford, formerly of Wirtz went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 23. 2008.

    Preceding Clara in death were her husband of 61 years, Alton Morton Brown; parents, William L. and Vaughnie Snow McBride Jones and brothers, Lorenzo, Nelson, Ray and Gordo Jones.

  • (Retired) Master Sgt. Larry E. “Butch” Wright, 59, NC

    Retired Master Sgt., U.S. Air Force, Larry Edwin “Butch” Wright, 59, of Goldsboro, NC, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4.

    He is survived by his wife, Phong G. Wright, sons Captain David Wright, U.S. Marine Corp and Jelikel Bumrungkul and wife Raven. One daughter, Cherry, and husband, Carlo. Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Edith “Jeri” and Billy O. Minnix of Thaxton. He has two surviving brothers, Robert Wright, of Roanoke and Gary Wright of Fincastle.

  • Bradford D. Ware, Sr., 83, Bedford

    Bradford Doyle Ware, Sr., 83, a resident of the Elks National Home in Bedford, VA, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. Born on Sept. 19, 1925, in Kingsville, WV, he was a son of Virginia Browning and Ray Earl Ware.

    He was retired from General Motors after 23 years of service, and also proudly worked for 10 years for the Elks National Home as a driver.

  • Woodson O. Tuck, 79, Bedford

    Woodson Overstreet Tuck, 79 of Bedford went to be with the lord Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008. He was born on Friday, May 17, 1929, in Roanoke County, a Son of the late Robert Coleman Tuck and Clara Stevens Tuck.

    He was also preceded in death by his brothers Marlin and Corbin Tuck.

  • Robert E. Soler, 89, Bedford

    Robert Emil (Bob) Soler, 89, of the Elks National Home, Bedford, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008.

    Bob was a truly warm and loving man; he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

    He was born in Brooklyn, NY on Jan. 30, 1919, a son of the late Sophie Lastra and his step-father, Joaquin Lastra.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Lawrence Soler who was the mother of his children, his son, Steven Robert Soler; and his brother, Antone Soler.

  • Nina O. Pritchard, 64, Bedford

    Nina Linda Overstreet Pritchard, 64, of Bedford, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. Born Feb. 26, 1944, in Tazewell, a daughter of the late Willie Mack Overstreet and Hazel Victoria Johnson Overstreet.

    In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Lorraine Overstreet, Effie Amos and Freda Little; and three brothers, Fred Overstreet, Frank Overstreet and William Mack Overstreet.

  • James G. Nance, 91, Moneta

    James "Jimmie" Gray Nance, 91 of Moneta went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at Berkshire Nursing Home. He was born on Thursday, Aug. 2, 1917, in Bedford County, Virginia, a son of the late Walter Scott Nance and Sallie Elisabeth Watson Nance.

    He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 59 years, Frances Huddleston Nance, sisters Marian Luck and Agnes Huddleston Nance, brothers Walter Watson Nance, Floyd Otey Nance and Elwood Nance.

  • James L. Miller, II, 33, Stafford

    James L. (Lil Jimmy) Miller, II, 33 of Stafford, formerly of Bedford, departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008. He was born Feb. 28, 1975.

    He is survived by his parents Joan G. Williams and James L. Miller, Sr. He is also survived by special parents Donald and Jackie Miller and a brother, Brian Miller.

    Funeral services were held Oct. 16, 2008 at Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at Burrell/Miller Family Cemetery.

  • William Dooley, 67, Bedford

    William “Clayton” Dooley, 67, of Bedford, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008. He was born in Bedford on March 27, 1941, a son of the late, Cephas Thomas Carter and Reba Dell Carter.

    He is survived by three sisters, Clara Elizabeth Overstreet, Edna Orange Hickman and husband, Hick; Mae Dooley and husband, Roy; two aunts, Eula “Missy” Orange and Rena Bradley; many nieces and nephews.

    Clayton wished for cremation and no services, but the family will receive friends anytime at the home of, Mae Dooley, 1152 Edwards Dr. Bedford.
