    Beunis Murl Wilson Crouch, 91, of Hardy and formerly of Bedford, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab, Rocky Mount. She was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Harry James Wilson and Evie Lela Jane Merritt Wilson.

    She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

  • Opal M. Cook, 90, Bedford

    Opal Martin Cook, 90 of Bedford died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007. Born in Damascus VA on Nov. 25, 1917, she was preceded in death by her parents James B. Martin and Annie Powers Martin, husband John W. Cook and her brothers and sisters.

    She is survived by a son D. Keith Cook and daughter-in-law Ann S. Cook of Bedford; a grandson Brian K. Cook and his wife Ginger D. Cook, and a Great-Granddaughter, Lauren C. Cook of Roanoke County.

  • Rachel S. Carter, 82, Moneta

    Rachel Gertrude Spradlin Carter, 82, of Moneta, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Vinton, a daughter of the late William "Willie" Alexander Spradlin and Mary Magdaline "Maggie" Scott Spradlin.

    She was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.

  • Nellie C. Updike, 95, Bedford

    Nellie Chaffin Updike, 95 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at a local nursing home. She was born June 8, 1912, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Elisha C. Chaffin and Estelle Overstreet Chaffin.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Anthony Updike and two sisters, Willie C. Nichols and Annie C. Ferguson.

    She was a retired farmer and was a member of Huddleston United Methodist Church.

  • Junior P. Roach, 95, Huddleston

    Junior Pearl Roach, 95 of Huddleston passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Bedford County Nursing Home. He was born on Wednesday, March 13, 1912, in Pittsylvania Co., a son of the late George Roach and Mattie Lee Richardson Roach.

    He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Wright Roach, three sons, Melvin Henry, Bobby Glenn and Billy Roach; two brothers, Calvin and Charlie Roach; two sisters, Lora Arthur and Berta Roach; a son-in-law, Patrick Lennon, a step-son, Robert Krantz and six grandchildren.

  • Graham G. Parker, Sr., 73, Bedford

    Graham G. Parker, Sr., 73, of Bedford, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at his residence. He was born Sept. 27, 1934, in Bedford County, a son of the late Elijah Price Parker and Ada Bell Carter Parker.

    Graham retired from Rubatex Corp. after 37 years of service. He was well known throughout the community for his hobby of peddling produce and socializing.

    In addition to his parents, Graham was preceded in death by four brothers, H. Price Parker, Sr., Kenneth B. Parker, Tommy S. Parker and Winston W. Parker; and a great-grandson, Jordan Joshua Parker.

  • Wilma B. King, 76, Huddleston

    Wilma Jean Bright King, 76, of Huddleston, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in Oakwood Manor. She was the wife of the late Ray Stone King.

    Born in West Virginia, Jan. 15, 1931, Wilma was the daughter of the late Harry Frederick and Mable Bray Bright. She was a homemaker and member of the Red Hat Society in Florida, Ohio and Texas.

    Roger Jones Johnson, 57, of Bedford, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at his residence. He was born in Roanoke on May 26, 1950, a son of the late Charles Edward Johnson, Sr. and Mary Bernice Anderson Johnson.

    In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sue Johnson.

    David Lee Bryant of Forest, died Dec. 1 in Nassau of heart failure at the age of 77. He was the son of the late William Chesley and Ethel Modlin Bryant.

  • Sarah H. Brennan, Bedford

    Sarah Kathleen Hall Brennan of Bedford, died Dec. 8, 2007. Born Oct. 18, 1923, in Altavista, a daughter of the late Herbert Marion Hall and Mazia Rolland Jordan Hall.

    She was the devoted wife of Thomas Harold Brennan for 57 years, a mother of five children, grandmother of eight and great grandmother of five.

    In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Georgia Lynn Yeager; a sister, Edna Hall Torrence and two brothers: Russell Eugene Hall and James Rolland Hall.
