• Patricia R. Pardue, 56, Bedford

        Patricia Teresa Rakowski Pardue, 56, of Bedford, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 in Bedford Memorial Hospital.  Born July 27, 1954 in New York, a daughter of the late Monika Rakowski and Bruno Francis Rakowski.
        Patricia was a member of  Bedford Presbyterian Church.

  • Arlene C. Major, 84, Bedford

        Arlene Carper Major, 84, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at her residence. She was born on Feb. 1, 1926 in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late Nicholas Carper and Era Bonds Carper.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Luther Major, sister, Annabell Maxton and two brothers, John Carper and Russell Carper.
        She was a retired employee of the Elks National Home having worked in the housekeeping department. She was also a member of Bible Truth Tabernacle.

  • Clara S. Lambeth, 96, Bedford

        Clara Sizemore Lambeth, 96, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010.  She was the wife of the late Bolling Lambeth.
        Clara was born on Dec. 15, 1913 in Buffalo Junction, a rural section of Mecklenburg County, the daughter of the late John Edward (Dunnie) Sizemore and Lizzie Pittard Sizemore.

  • Wesley E. Hannabass, 84, Roanoke

        Wesley Elton Hannabass, 84, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010. He was born in Roanoke, on July 8, 1926 the son of the late Alfred and Purney Overstreet Hannabass.
        He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Doris A. Hodges Hannabass.
        Mr. Hannabass served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was an automotive mechanic.

  • Robert L. McNeil, 91, Bedford

    Robert L. “Uncle Babe” McNeil, 91, currently of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. Born Feb. 1, 1919 in West Jefferson, NC, a son of the late Clemmie Dixon McNeil and Lester McNeil.
    Uncle Babe is survived by four nieces, Janis T. Gates of Bedford, Carol T. Billings of Chilhowie, VA, Cheryl T. Bryant of Bristol, TN and Glenna McNeil Lewis of Sparta, NC; two nephews, Robert I. Thomas of Houston, TX and Jerry McNeil of West Jefferson, NC; many great-nieces and nephews; and great great-nieces and nephews.

  • Francis M. Rieley, 66, Montvale

    Francis Marion Rieley, 66, of Montvale passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, April 4, 1944 in Bedford County, a son of the late John A. Rieley Sr. and Lois McManaway Rieley.
    He was a retired Pipe Fitter at N.S. Railroad and was a member the Blue Ridge Church of the Brethern.

  • Lois L. Salake, 85, Hampton City

    Lois Madeline Leftwich Salake, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010. She was born to Hattie and Elmo Leftwich in Bedford County, Virginia and came to Hampton in 1943.
    She worked for NACA where she met her husband Paul Salake. Later she worked as a bus driver for Hampton City Schools. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels starting in the 1960’s.
    Her main focus in life was her husband, family, friends, and her church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Society.

    Sarah Elizabeth Dooley Goff, 69, of Angier, N.C., formerly of Bedford, went to her heavenly home on Sept. 27, 2010. She was born Dec. 31, 1940, a daughter of the late Herman E. Dooley and Anna Carter Dooley. She is also preceded in death by a brother Dan H. Dooley and a sister Linda D. Peters.

    Rose Marie Arthur Fisher, 84, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010. She was born on Jan. 28, 1926 in Bedford County, the daughter of the late Charlie Kent Arthur and Pearl Susan Moran Arthur. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Robert, Dean and James Arthur; and two sisters, Christine A. Williams and Irene A. Whorley.
