  • Beverly W. Armbruster, 89, Bedford

        Beverly Burks Watson Armbruster, 89, of Bedford, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home. Born on February 27, 1921 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Dolly Major Watson and Harry Cooper Watson.

        Beverly was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She graduated from M. E. Marques High School in Big Island and Lewis Gale School of Nursing in Roanoke. She was a retired Registered Nurse of the V.A. Medical Center in Salem.

  • John M. Hemenway, 47, Bedford

    John Martin Hemenway, 47, died on April 30, 2010, on his farm in Bedford. He was born on April 17, 1963 in Washington, DC.

        A graduate of Landon School, Duke University School of Engineering and George Mason School of Law, John was employed by Andrew Corp. in Forest at the time of his death.

  • Austin C. Goode, 92, Bedford

        Austin Clay Goode, 92, of Bedford, and formerly of Dillwyn, died, Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Elks National Home, Bedford. Born March 12, 1918 in Huddleston, he was a son of the late Ira Clay Goode and Hinda Austin Goode. In addition to his parents, Austin was preceded in death by his sister, Marie, and her husband, Earl Hobbs; two sisters-in-law, Betty Goode and Louise Goode.

        Homer Witt Wooldridge, Jr., 78, of Bedford, went to his heavenly home Monday, May 3, 2010. Born June 1, 1931 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Homer Witt Wooldridge, Sr.

  • Cynthia B. Edwards, 66, SC

        A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Cynthia E. Boyer “Cyndy” Edwards will be celebrated on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken.  Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery and will be private for family members.

        Mrs. Edwards, 66, of Aiken, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.

  • Walter Fredlund, 86, FL

        Walter Fredlund, 86, who resided in Pompano Beach, FL, passed away at his residence on April 16, 2010.  He was born in New York on March 7, 1924.

        He is survived by his three daughters, Irene Fredlund; Debbie Fuhro and husband, Raymond; Wendy Moseley and husband, Jake of Thaxton;  three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

  • Angela M. Holland, 40, Bedford

        Angela Michele Holland, 40, of Bedford, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital.  Born April 10, 1970, a daughter of William “Louis” Holland, Sr. and Lois O. Holland.  She is preceded in death by her grandfather, James Robert Overstreet; two uncles, Steve Allen Overstreet and James “Jimmy” Robert Holland.

  • Lowry W. Hawkins, Jr., 79, Montvale

        Lowry William “June” Hawkins, Jr., 79, of Montvale, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at his residence.  He was born on June 1, 1930, a son of the late Betty Juanita Fielder Hawkins and Lowry William Hawkins, Sr.  

        He was a member of Walnut Grove Union Church and a lifetime member of Montvale Volunteer Fire Dept.  Lowry was a retiree of Lyn-Cag in Lynchburg and was currently employed by CVAAA in Lynchburg.  He was also a volunteer for RSVP of Bedford County. 

  • Charles R. Bowyer, Jr., 64, Bedford

        Charles (Buggs) Roy Bowyer, Jr. 64, of Bedford, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at his residence.  He was born in Bedford on Dec. 5, 1945, a son of the late, Charles Roy Bowyer, Sr. and Thelma Margaret Payne Bowyer.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Bowyer Wood. 

        Buggs was still employed with Frank Chervan as a furniture engineer with 40 years of service.  He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving our country with two tours, in Vietnam.
