  • Joining forces

        Dr. Kim McCabe has been studying about crimes against children for some time.

        At the same time, for some 20 years the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office has been attempting to provide children the opportunity to explore the virtual world online in a safe environment.
        Recently Dr. McCabe and the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (SOVA ICAC) Task Force teamed up to produce a book to educate parents about how to help protect their children while using social media.

  • Horse sense

        Colt Rainville is in an appropriate business for a guy named Colt. He’s a horse trainer. He’s also only 16, but is already a high school graduate.

        Rainville was home schooled and that made it possible for him to finish his high school studies early. He did that by continuing his studies during the summer, rather than taking a break. That allowed him to advance fast.

    Less then 24 hours after demolishing Liberty Christian 19-1 in five innings the Lady Minutemen of Liberty found themselves in unfamiliar territory, the sixth and seventh inning.
        

  • Soccer: Golden Eagles cruise past William Fleming

    The Lady Golden Eagles soccer team of Staunton River hosted their first Blue Ridge district game against William Fleming on Thursday March 29.
        

    Staunton River secured its first district win with a 4-0 victory over Fleming.
        

    Scoreless for the first 30 minutes Sam Faw received a pass from Abby Light and broke the tie in the 32nd minute. Faw’s goal gave Staunton River a 1-0 lead at the half.
        

  • Baseball: Agee and Cavs dominate Hilltoppers

    Not a single Hilltopper player recorded a hit while Griffin Agee was on the mound. Agee put forth his most dominant performance of the season to gain his first win of the season and give Jefferson Forest its second with a 13-1 victory over E.C. Glass in five innings.
        
    Agee, the UVA commit, pitched four innings, walked four batters and struck out 11 without allowing a single hit. At the plate Agee added a hit and scored a run.
        

  • Lacrosse: Double Trouble

    Jefferson Forest welcomed Blacksburg for a a lacrosse double-header and sent the Bruins back to Blacksburg with two big losses, 14-1 and 9-3.
        

    The Lady Cavaliers went to work first against Blacksburg. Entering the game undefeated, Jefferson Forest wasted no time against the Lady Bruins.
        

    Crushing Blacksburg 14-1 Jefferson Forest remains a perfect 4-0 on the season.
        

  • Baseball: Lancers take down Minutemen

    Starting with the defending 4A State Champion Liberty Christian Academy Bulldogs and finishing with Seminole District powerhouse Amherst County with a double-header against Lord Botetourt in between, the Liberty Minutemen had their work cut out for them the week leading into Spring Break.
        

  • Softball: Brown nearly goes for cycle against Liberty Christian

    Madison Brown came a home run short of batting for the cycle in Jefferson Forest’s 11-0 win against E.C. Glass.
        

    Brown finished 3-3 with a single, double and a triple, driving in two of the Cavaliers runs and scoring three herself.
      

    Marlie HIll added offense at the plate as well for Jefferson Forest. Hill also went 3-3 at the plate, drove in two runs, scored two runs and hit two doubles.
