  • Softball: Liberty receives Resolution from Town Council

       The 2018 Liberty High School Softball team received a Resolution from the Town Council congratulating the team on all it accomplished during the season.

       Members of the team and coaching staff gathered and received the award on behalf of Liberty.

  • Volleyball: Jefferson Forest falls in battle of Cavaliers

    The Jefferson Forest Lady Cavaliers Volleyball team got one of its toughest tests of the season right out of the gate on Monday August 20. The team traveled to take on defending 3A State Champion Lord Botetourt Lady Cavaliers.

    Jefferson Forest put up a fight in the first set but Lord Botetourt took it 25-17. In the second the offense of Lord Botetourt continued to roll in a 25-8 victory to go up 2-0.

  • Volleyball: Staunton River cruises in season opener

    Heritage stole the first point of the opening set in Staunton River’s home opener on Monday August 20. As the Lady Pioneers took a 1-0 lead the lights in the gym became dim, only briefly. When the lights regained full power the Lady Golden Eagles did the same.

        A few words are needed to correct various suppositions in Beck Stanley’s op-ed piece in the Bulletin’s August 8 edition, lest they create the “cultural crisis” he describes. As it is, many of his assertions are nearly incomprehensible; others so divorced from fact as to be unbelievable.

        With the Labor Day holiday just around the corner, voters will settle in for the midterm elections of 2018, which are likely to end in a stunning repudiation of this scandal-plagued, dishonest and corrupt president.
        Just about every day, Donald Trump demonstrates anew why he is setting new standards for the phrase “worst president ever.” It’s simply amazing to watch this clownish figure prove over and over again why he’s not fit to be where he finds himself.

        This week, on their editorial pages, newspapers across this nation are standing together to support the role journalism plays in a free society. We support that effort.
        Journalists should not be branded as an “enemy of the people” as our President has said. Journalism plays a key role in helping to get information out to the people that otherwise wouldn’t be known.

  • Bedford man faces six months in jail for accident that hurt passenger

        A 24-year-old Bedford man will spend six months in jail for an accident that occurred September 10 of last year while he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
        Shane David Danby pleaded no contest to charges of felony maiming while driving while intoxicated and a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, first offense.
        Judge James Updike sentenced Danby to three years in prison on the maiming charge with all but six months suspended. Danby received a 30-day suspended sentence on the DWI charge.
