• Have an event? Let us know!

The Bedford Area Welcome Center is not only a valuable resource for visitors to the area, but also to the residents of Bedford!

  • If you vote Republican

When Americans go to the polls next week, there will be many names on the ballot in races for the House, Senate, and governorships. But we all know that it’s really about the person whose name will not be on the ballot anywhere.
I won’t say his name, because of the embarrassment, the shame, and the corruption with which it is so clearly associated. He is not just the worst president we’ve ever had; he’s the worst we’re likely to ever have, and we can at least be grateful for that.

  • They had better hope it’s not just Trump

Rick Howell has made a couple departures from the one-note symphony he has been playing about President Donald Trump over the past year. For a while I thought this meant that his political party’s candidates were so awful that there was nothing good to be said about them, even by a hyper partisan political activist.

  • Leslie Cockburn is driving ‘em nuts

As the 2018 mid-term elections – the most important ones in American history – draw closer, Virginia congressional campaigns are very relevant to the national results.
Republicans are desperate to hold down their losses in House elections as many millions of Americans will vote Democratic in order to repudiate the disgusting corruption of the lying, incompetent, hateful clown in the White House.

  • Attack ads

As I’ve mentioned before, I love the attack ads that show up as election day nears.
The meaner they are, the better I like them. I also enjoy political rants on Facebook. I don’t post political rants, as most people don’t enjoy this stuff like I do. I do, however, join threads in response to somebody else’s political post. Normally, I  make a comment from a conservative viewpoint on a liberal Facebook friend’s political post and then watch the fun as that person’s liberal friends go ballistic.

  • It’s time to pray—daily—for our nation

    By the Rev. John Salley

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7.14).

  • In praise of Sen. Tim Kaine

There are some very good reasons why U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a Democrat, is so popular in what is now the “Blue” state of Virginia.
Yes, our Commonwealth, which was once a Republican guarantee, has left the dark side and now communes with the righteous and the just, if I may put it spiritually.

  • Trump won

I often tell people that they should read Rick Howell’s “Liberal Agenda” because he does a good job of articulating the crazy way liberals think. Last week, among other things, he spouted the standard “Democratic” propaganda line that President Donald Trump did not win the 2016 election.
Perhaps most liberals can be excused for believing this line because they are ignorant. Mr. Howell, however, does not have that excuse. He has a degree in political science from Lynchburg College and he should know better.

  • Supporting the LU Crew Team

Submitted by the Smith Mountain Lake Water Safety Council

With a substantial boathouse and dock investment in the Mitchell’s Point area, Liberty University has made Smith Mountain Lake the home waters for its crew team. We, as lake residents and users, play a key role in the safety and success of the forty plus young athletes on the LU Crew Team. They need our help right now.

  • Don’t say ‘it isn’t about race’

I adopted some rules for myself after the tragic result of the 2016 presidential election, as many others did, too.
I resolved to never use, in print here, or in conversation, the words “President” and “Trump” together, as one would say President Obama or President Reagan. And I haven’t.
