  • Dunbar’s ‘trippy road’ finally ends

        Republican Cynthia Dunbar has now managed to lose a congressional nomination race in two House districts, one in which she never announced a candidacy but simply showed up to compete.
        Sixth District Republicans made a reasonable choice when they nominated Del. Ben Cline. Many of them were convinced that Dunbar and the district party chair had tried to cheat their way to the nomination, at one point even hatching a plan to disqualify all the Amherst County delegates.

    Farm Bill needs to be passed

        On May 18, the House was not able to pass H.R. 2 which outlines the 2018 Farm Bill. A vote to reconsider this bill will be held June 22. Outspoken opponents could possibly force delays preventing H.R. 2 from passing before the current Farm Bill expires this fall.
        I live in Bedford County on a 850-acre grain farm. As a lifelong farmer, the Farm Bill has a significant impact on my family.

        We all know the stock market is booming. The economic recovery that began at the end of President Obama’s term has continued to gain steam under President Trump. In cities like Washington, D.C., it is almost like the great recession never happened.
        But when you get outside the beltway, to rural communities across Virginia, you get a different picture.
        The truth is, rural America continues to feel the lingering symptoms of the financial crisis.
