  • Independent audits of the VA are necessary for real reform

  • Protecting those who serve

Serving in the line of danger is not foreign to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. They bravely serve throughout the globe, facing threats each and every day. But when acts of horrific violence happen here at home against our men and women in uniform, it is a stark reminder that the threats they face are ever-present and have no clear boundaries.

  • Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital- One year review

    By Diane M. Ludwig
    Centra
    Media & Communications Manager

If you’ve driven by Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital lately, you know firsthand that they are making some changes!
With bulldozers, bricks and equipment scattered on the front lawn, the hospital’s outdated interior and exterior will soon be a thing of the past. Since purchasing the hospital Centra has invested over $4 Million in the hospital, with an additional $1-2 million planned every year for the next three years.

  • Huckabee goes off the deep end

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s religious crusade – deployed again as a presidential campaign – went seriously off the rails last week with his outrageous remarks about the nuclear deal with Iran.
I’ve enjoyed having fun with Huckabee, whom I’ve dubbed “Hillbilly Huck,” given his pride in his backwoods Arkansas origins. Not to mention the book he published to launch his campaign, “God, Guns, Grits and Gravy.”

  • Security breach

A couple of weeks ago the Wall Street Journal carried a story about the Pentagon’s proposal to provide more powerful weapon-locating radar to Ukraine. This type of radar detects incoming artillery shells and uses the shells’ trajectory to calculate where they were fired from. This calculation allows for more effective counter battery fire — making it easier to return the favor.

  • Letter 07/29/15

    Jesus

    carpenter

The retired D. C. cop who tried to respond to my recent letter starts by praising Sheriff Brown for the great job he’s doing and that both of them had worked for the D. C. Police Dept. I wonder if this is why D. C. has such a violent crime record.
I’m convinced he and Sheriff Brown have a lot in common--neither know how to tell the truth.

  • Sanctuary cities violate the law and endanger public safety

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

Immigrants who have come to America over the last two centuries refresh, enrich, and restore the promise of American liberty.  The ‎many immigrants who have traversed the path to becoming American citizens – oftentimes through much hardship – have made this country great.  Indeed, we are a nation of immigrants.
