  • A fair hearing

        Monday evening President Trump announced his nomination to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy who is retiring from the Supreme Court of the United States. That nominee is Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
        Immediately following the announcement, the partisan rhetoric began.
        Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe stated that the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh would threaten the lives of millions of Americans for decades to come.

Hosbrook, though you are my ancestor, I thought it only fitting and proper to address you by your rank and title in that great war for independence that we are celebrating some 242 years later.  As an officer in the First New Jersey Regiment of General Washington’s Continental Line, you were well aware of the blood and treasure being sacrificed to break free from a pompous and tyrannical British king.

  • GOP operative quits; blasts Trump

        If there was ever any doubt that Donald Trump is an immoral, black-hearted, hate-filled wretch, it was surely dispelled by his so-called zero tolerance policy enacted at the Texas, Mexico border.
        This disgusting man proved once again that there is no limit to how low he will stoop to carry out his punitive and racist ideas on the prospect of more non-whites coming into this country.

  • When is it time to hang up the keys?

        This is a touchy subject.
        I’m 65 and I’ll turn 66 in four months, assuming some liberal doesn’t shoot me before then. I understand how frightening the thought of hanging up their keys is to elderly people. It means loss of freedom as people who can’t drive are dependent on somebody else taking them any place that they can’t walk to.

    Clean up the mess

        For several years now, Bedford County Libraries have allowed birds to nest in their entrance porticoes. This is a health hazard and no one wants to walk through bird guano to enter the library.
        Contrary to what the library system insists, there are a number of diseases that can be transmitted to humans by birds and bird waste. It is a risk for those of us who have asthma.

        Over the next four months, Virginians will see on full display the worst and most sickening aspects of the vile poison unleashed in our politics by Donald Trump.
        That’s because the Virginia GOP nominated Trumpanzee sycophant Corey Stewart as its candidate for U.S. Senate. Stewart’s only claim to fame is his Goebbels-like worship of the lying, corrupt New York City real estate hustler in the Oval Office.
