  • An open letter to wake makers

Wake Surfer and SML Water Safety Council me ber

I am one of us.  I’ve wake boarded on SML for 15 years and am still at it.  I have friends with surf boats and get invited along for wake surfing sessions. These sports are great fun, but the towboats produce significant wakes. There are more and larger towboats on the lake each year that are designed to make formidable wakes, and more families are enjoying wake sports together.

  • Legal abortion under vicious assault

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp recently signed the so-called “heartbeat abortion ban” into law, joining five other states that have passed similar legislation. It’s a blatant attempt to reach the U.S. Supreme Court and end legal abortion rights for American women.
The law is ridiculous and punitive, and under Roe v. Wade, clearly unconstitutional. It would ban abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks, even before a woman knows she’s pregnant.

  • ‘Democratic’ nomination circus

As of this writing, President Donald Trump’s approval rating sits at 49 percent.

  • Military spouses helped write last year’s national defense bill

    By U.S. Senator Tim Kaine

Military spouses are unemployed at a rate somewhere between three and five times the national average. As I travel around Virginia, military families, their advocates and the business community share with me some of the reasons for this jarring statistic.
When service members are reassigned, on average every two years, their spouses often have to leave their jobs and move to new communities. Military spouse Erin Ward, for example, pursued 15 different careers over 19 moves.

    Supports Miller for Sheriff

It is both a privilege and an honor for me to endorse Captain Mike Miller for Bedford County Sheriff. I have known Mike and his family for over 30 years, since serving as his pastor back in the mid 80’s. I have found him to be a loving husband and father and a man of sincere faith in God.

  • Finding middle ground

    By James F. Burns
    Retired professor
    University of Florida

She had sat at the table for hours, pen in hand but so paralyzed with grief she could not write.  Finally, Nancy Mills expressed her feelings to her son-in-law upon the deaths of his wife—her daughter Nancy—and their little girl Caroline.

  • ‘Mafia Donald’ finds his Roy Cohn

If you know of the shameful McCarthy era in our political history (and Trump supporters don’t, because most of them are as ignorant as him), then you know the role played by the red-baiting attorney Roy Cohn.
As the alcoholic Sen. Joe McCarthy ruined careers and lives in the 1950s by claiming there were “communists everywhere” in the State Dept., his chief aide and attorney was Cohn, a vicious anti-Commie fanatic who was also secretly gay.

  • They’re not as stupid as I thought

I noticed, in last week’s Liberal Agenda, that Rick Howell is very happy that Uncle Joe is officially in the race for the “Democrat” nomination for president.
