  • Don't go there
Bedford County is famous for many things.  It has the D-Day Memorial, the Peaks of Otter and Poplar Forest, all national treasures. Bedford County has also earned a reputation as a mecca for deer hunting.  The county, by far, produces the richest harvest of deer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Beloved coach to retire
It changed his life. And he certainly changed many lives, in turn. This Saturday, Jefferson Forest Head Coach Jerome Loy will coach the final cross country event of his distinguished career.  The ol' coach is wrapping up his run at JF, hanging up his whistle and going out on top.  However the black and red perform, Loy will walk off the course at Great Meadow a winner.  Certainly, getting another State championship ring to go along with the eight he already has would be a nice parting gift.
  • Another bite at the apple
Some folks wait their whole lives for that ship to come in. Others get one shot at the brass ring. There are those who only understand that they had a shot when said shot is well past them. Then there's Scott Sigmon. Better known as "Cujo" in these parts, the best boxer to ever come from this area seemed to get his one chance when he went toe-to-toe with former World Champion Kelly Pavlik in Las Vegas. That June, 2012, bout had Pavlik winning a technical knockout in the seventh round.

This week's Photo of the Week was provided by Haley Fredericks.  "It was taken in my Mom's garden on a daisy stem.  It is a Planthopper Nymphs from the Acanaloniidae family.  They are really small, and whenever you touch them, they hop away.  The strands of fuzz might provide protection from predators:  It could be a trick, having the predators attack the wrong part of the insect-the wax breaks off, while the insect jumps to safety."
  • Young bucks of the ring
By Mike Forster sports@bedfordbulletin.com   When one thinks of fertile boxing grounds, places such as Philadelphia, Detroit and. New York come to mind. Well, the City of Brotherly Love, Motown and the Big Apple have some company:  Bedford County, Virginia.
