    Kinnice Turner was running a bit behind schedule on the morning of Liberty’s 3C Regional semifinal game against Broadway. But in the bottom of the ninth inning Turner found herself in the perfect place at the perfect time.

    It had been nine days since Jefferson Forest’s last game, a nail biting 1-0 victory over Liberty in the opening round of the district tournament. The Cavaliers struggled to get runners on base in that matchup. Against Pulaski County in the opening round of the 4D Regional Tournament the Cavaliers had no such struggle.

    It is no secret that the Jefferson Forest girls soccer team is the team to beat in the 4D Regional Tournament. Every team knows it, the parents of every team know it and the grandparents of every team probably know it.
      

  • Softball: Adkins, Buchanan lead Staunton River

    Staunton River’s softball team survived and advanced with a 7-1 victory over the Abingdon Falcons on Thursday evening. The game started off slowly with the Golden Eagles trailing by a run after three innings. But the offense exploded in the fourth and fifth innings, putting up seven runs on the board.
        

  • Softball: Lady Lancers end Lady Cavaliers’ season

    The Jefferson Forest Cavaliers saw their softball season come to an end on Wednesday evening. The Amherst County Lancers struck first in a pitchers’ duel and never relinquished their lead in the first game of regional play. The final score came out to be 3-1 in favor of the Lancers.
        

  • Sixth annual Adaptive Golf clinic

    London Downs hosted the sixth annual Adaptive Golf Clinic, an event designed for veterans with adaptive needs on Wednesday May 25. The program focuses on individuals going through challenges from their time serving the country as well as individuals that encounter daily challenges that are non-combat related such as, recovering from a stroke or heart attack, autism, muscular dystrophy etc.
        

  • Softball: Lady Minutemen get through Rockbridge County

    It had been a long 17 days since Liberty had played a softball game. The team’s final regular season game was played on May 11 and the Seminole District tournament was cancelled before they could play a single game.
      

  • Soccer: Liberty routs Brookville in 3C opener

    One goal would have been enough for the Lady Minutemen soccer team to defeat Brookville. Instead, the Liberty offense put eight balls in the back of Brookville's net and cruised to an 8-0 victory to advance to the semi-finals of the 3C Regional Tournament.
        

    Freshman Lydia Young struck five minutes in off the pass from Delaney Snead. Shortly after Young again found the back of the net to give Liberty a 2-0 lead.
        

  • 13 Cavaliers sign

    The front hallway of Jefferson Forest High School was filled with students and parents itching to get a good view of the Cavaliers’ monster signing for the 2018 class. Three tables were set up to hold 12 of the 13 students–one was not present–as they signed to continue their athletic career and education.
        

    Swimmers–Lizzy Braud, Brian Grimmett, Sutton Schonfelder and Caleb Rice–made up a third of the athletes present and got their own table.
