  • Basketball: Jones officially a Ram

    Students, coaches, faculty and staff of Staunton River gathered in the lobby of the Golden Eagles’ gymnasium to look on as Kalip Jones officially signed to become a Bluefield Ram.

    Jones excelled in both football and basketball but ultimately decided to continue his basketball career at the next level.

    “I like football but basketball is just my thing,” Jones said. “Basketball has been the thing I’ve loved ever since I was little.”

  • Soccer: Liberty beats down Bees

    A Brookville beat down was in store at the Liberty Minutemen boys soccer team hosted the Bees.

    Liberty dominated from the start. Garrett Nicholas scored the first goal–unassisted–in the 12th minute for Liberty. 20 minutes later Brookville put the ball in their own net to give Liberty a 2-0 lead.

    Three minutes after Brookville’s own goal the Minutemen drew a penalty resulting in a penalty kick goal from Brandon Campbell to give Liberty a 3-0 lead at the half.

  • Baseball: No shortage of offense for Golden Eagles

    It had been about 10 days since either team stepped on the diamond to play a game. But on the return from Spring Break the Staunton River Golden Eagles had no shortage of offense.

    Staunton River took the first of two match ups between the Bedford County rivals, 12-2.

  • Baseball: Cavaliers win Tarboro Easter Classic

    While the Bedford County public schools were on Spring Break the Jefferson Forest baseball team traveled down to Tarboro, North Carolina to compete in the Tarboro Easter Classic.

    The tournament gave the Cavaliers the chance to play against teams outside of the state of Virginia. Jefferson Forest matched up with three teams from North Carolina and finished with an average margin of victory of nine runs.

  • Softball: Lady Minutemen continue to roll

    Twelve days after defeating Staunton River 4-0 on the Lady Golden Eagles field the Lady Minutemen softball team hosted the Lady Golden Eagles.

    The score was closer but the result was the same. Liberty (7-0) defeated Staunton River (3-3) 1-0. Two days earlier the Lady Minutemen took down Lord Botetourt 3-1.

  • Basketball: Richeson named First Team All-State

    Jefferson Forest standout Jordan Richeson can add First Team All-State to his impressive list of accomplishments in the 2017-18 basketball season.

    “When an impact player transfers the big question is how will he fit,” Jefferson Forest Head Coach Cameron Shepherd said. “Jordan fit immediately with our group. He’ll tell you how important that was. His success hinged on his teammates.”
