It felt like Deja Vu for the Golden Eagles on Saturday. Entering the sixth inning of a rematch with Jefferson Forest tied 1-1 and the Cavaliers broke the tie in the sixth inning just as they had the week before. Only this time Staunton River responded in the seventh inning to win, in walk-off fashion, 5-4.

Scoreless for two and a half innings, Jefferson Forest’s Madi Shannon stood in the batters box with a full count. The payoff pitch came in and went right back out. Shannon blasted a line drive deep and over the wall of center field, breaking the scoreless tie and ultimately being the difference in the game.

  • Baseball: Grant strikes out 15 in shutout

Snow derailed most of Liberty’s scheduled games in the first few weeks of the season but the Minutemen took to the diamond on Friday March 23 to take on Heritage. Liberty dismantled the Pioneers in a 8-0 victory.

Bryce Grant took the mound for the Minutemen and threw a ridiculous 15 strikeouts in six innings pitched. Allowing just one hit of the possible 18 outs for Grant to record on the mound, all but three were strikeouts.
