    In the mid 80s when Michael Wray was attending Liberty High School he was tasked with a school project requiring the creation of a short story. The project gave birth to the idea of a football themed board game, You’re the Coach.
        

    Wray would sit in his room dreaming and perfecting the board game. His mother deemed it his own little world.

    You might think about playing on your high school basketball team, watching your friend out on the football field or watching your daughter’s softball game. But regardless of your experience, think about the power that sports can hold.

  • Staunton River Kid's Camp

    The Staunton River Kid’s Camp took place from Monday June 11-Wednesday June 13. This year the camp shifted back to the morning in order to accommodate for kids that have other activities scheduled for afternoons.

    Counselors were members of the boys and girls Golden Eagle teams as well as a few former Golden Eagles. Rodney Kasey, who played at Bluefield College and is now a member of the coaching staff at Bluefield State, was a counselor and a guest speaker on the camp’s final day.

  • Cavalier's Kids' Camp

    This year’s turnout for Jefferson Forest’s Basketball Kid’s Camp nearly doubled from that of last year’s. Going from 35 kids to 65 kids the Cavaliers had a packed gym from Monday June 11-Thursday June 14.

    A total of 14 current and former Cavaliers helped boys Head Coach Cameron Shepherd run through drills throughout the entire week.

    Despite retiring the final 14 batters during Friday’s 3A State Semifinal game against Cave Spring, Liberty’s magical playoff run came to an end in a 3-0 loss.

     

    With the Liberty fans that traveled nearly an hour looking on from right outside the fence, Head Coach Mike Thompson and the Liberty softball team huddled up and embraced one final time in the 2018 season.

     

  • Soccer: Lady Cavaliers fall to...

    A dream season shattered to a devastating end on Tuesday night for the Jefferson Forest girls’ soccer team. In the Class 4 state quarterfinal game, the previously undefeated Lady Cavaliers lost to the Loudoun County Raiders 4-0. Loudoun would progress to end up winning the Class 4 state championship.

    Never before had two teams from Bedford County played in the VHSL state softball tournament. That piece of history was rewritten on Tuesday June 5 as Staunton River took on Liberty at Liberty.
