    Toward the end of the season Staunton River Golden Eagles boy’s Head Coach Brandon Harris said his team needed more scoring from players not named Kalip Jones and Josh Thomas.

    In Staunton River’s Region 3C first round matchup against Abingdon the Golden Eagles stepped up, finishing with three players in double-digits and eight total players on the scoresheet Staunton River defeated Abingdon 77-63.

  • Moving On

    It has been nearly a decade since the Jefferson Forest boy’s basketball team has made it to the Regional Tournament, all of the current players were still in elementary school.

    On Friday Feb. 16 not only did the Cavaliers return to the Regional Tournament but they took down Pulaski County 63-57 to get one step closer to the VHSL State Tournament.

  • Wrestling continues record year...

    Last year the Staunton River Golden Eagles took four wrestlers to the VHSL State Championship meet and put one on the podium. This year the Golden Eagles had four wrestlers in the finals for their respective weight-class.

    This year’s team made program history by taking nine wrestlers to the State Championship.

    The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy (SMLCA) Ospreys put their 11-game win streak on the line against rival Dayspring Christian Academy in the VACA Regional Semi-Finals on Friday Feb. 16. The Ospreys defeated the Lions 78-65.

    The Lions had been victorious in all three of the previous meetings between these two teams. The Ospreys had the opportunity to get them when it counted most.

  • Bees too much for Liberty

    Liberty put Brookville in a spot the Lady Bees had not often found themselves in this season. The Lady Minutemen completely flustered their opponent. An aggressive defense mixed with fast paced offense held Brookville scoreless for the first five minutes of the game.

  • Repeat

    Repeating as VHSL 4A State Championship was not the Jefferson Forest boy’s team’s main goal. Head Coach Marty Ponder said all he wanted was his team to swim their best swim and not worry about what they could not control.

    The Cavaliers did just that and got another State Championship for their efforts. Jefferson Forest won their second consecutive VHSL 4A State Championship 233-224 over second place Monacan High School. The girl’s finished in twelfth overall with 62 points.

    Last year Jefferson Forest won five games and was bounced in the first round of the Seminole District Championship. This year the Cavaliers took down Liberty and Rustburg to reach the Seminole District Championship game.
