Thanksgiving is here. The holiday is about giving thanks to everything one has. The holiday also means that hockey has been competing for a hair over a month, and Roanokeā€™s team is currently off to a great start. The 2023 Presidential Cup Champion Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs entered the season poised to defend their championship and so far so good.

After much anticipation and a long offseason, the Rail Yard Dawgs opened their 2023-2024 campaign back on October 20th against Fayetteville where they won four to nothing in front of roughly six-thousand-three-hundred and fifty people. In fact, attendance numbers may be part of the reason Roanoke is off to a great start. Currently, the average fans in the stands at the Berglund Center on any particular hockey night sits around five-thousand-four-hundred. The Rail Yard Dawgs are proof that a hot start can carry because following their opening night victory; they went into week number two and won all three contests: one against Fayetteville again, the other two against Quad City. Impressively all three victories were accomplished while in hostile territory.
